The Bulgari store on the famous Avenue George V in Paris has been robbed for the second time in just two years. The robbers, armed with hammers, smashed display cases and stole high-end jewelry and watches worth an estimated €10 million.
The store, located in one of the most upscale shopping districts in Paris, was first robbed in 2017 when thieves made off with €2 million worth of Bulgari jewelry. Despite the installation of additional security measures, including reinforced glass and alarm systems, the store was targeted again in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
According to reports, the robbers escaped on motorbikes, and the police are currently investigating the incident. No injuries were reported during the robbery, but the store suffered significant damage.
Bulgari is part of the luxury goods conglomerate LVMH, which has faced a series of high-profile robberies in recent years. Last year, LVMH's flagship store in Paris was targeted by armed robbers who made off with €2 million worth of goods. In 2019, a gang of thieves stole €3 million worth of jewelry and watches from a Chopard store in Paris.
Luxury stores have long been a target for thieves, who are drawn to the high value of the goods on display. However, the rise of organized criminal gangs, often from Eastern Europe, has led to an increase in the number and sophistication of robberies. The use of motorbikes and other high-speed vehicles to make quick getaways has become increasingly common, as has the use of hammers and other tools to break into display cases.
The latest robbery at the Bulgari store highlights the ongoing challenge facing luxury goods retailers in Paris and other major cities around the world. With the demand for high-end goods showing no signs of slowing down, retailers will need to find new and innovative ways to protect their stores and their customers.
